Journal 10

Today in class we did more of the group projects. We also went over our new 6 page research assignment. For our final project we were suppose to be making a webpage but since technology "unpredictable" Tess decided that a research paper was better. I personally would prefer to do the website. I don't like long research papers!

Journal 9

On Tuesday, March 16th talked about fallacies. We didn't have class on Thursday because she was going to a meeting, but instead of having class we had to meet with our groups to work on our project. We we over a fallacies powerpoint that talked about the different kinds of arguments. We learned about deductive or inductive arguments. Deductive is based on logic and fact and inductive is based on drawing conclusions from limited information.

Today in class we did presentations. Only two groups were able to go today because I lost my voice and wasn't able to talk, another group was missing a member due to illness, and the last group hadn't done their survey yet. Overall I thought that the presentations went well today for it being the first day. My favorite one so far was the Lafollette food. Their powerpoint was very well laid out and you could tell they had thought it through. Thursday my group is presenting our powerpoint on the Ball State University Shuttle Bus.

Today in class we talked about the Field Work Group Project. My group decided to observe people on the shuttle bus. We each have to write a one page reflective essay. Once we observe people on the shuttle bus we have to interview someone on the bus or someone that rides the bus and write another one page reflective essay.
For my annotated bibliography I have seven sources so far. I'm finding it easy to get information on my topic. However, it's hard to find articles that pertain to autism in school children.

Today in class we did finding and evaluating information on the World Wide Web. As a class we were given the topic of if man really walked on the moon in the 1960's. I analyzed www.apfn.org, this website was saying that the Apollo moon landing was a fake. The purpose of the website was to inform people. The website is written by several individuals, some of the things on the website and 'factual" and others are people's opinions. There are sources cited but some of them are no longer available. The website was last revised on January 25, 2010. After reading this site, I still believe that man did land on the moon in the Apollo mission.

Today in class we turned in our final draft of our topic proposal. I'm not sure how I did on this paper, because I wasn't sure what else to add to make it four pages. In class we also worked in our groups to make web bibliographies. We had nine different sources that we had to figure out how to correctly source. We did this activity to help prepare us for our annotated bibliographies. Our first rough draft for the annotated bibliography is next Thursday. As a class we are going to the library this Thursday to get more information on researching and how to use difference resources.

Last week we didn't meet for class, we had conferences instead. My conference with Professor Evans was Monday at 1:00 p.m. In my conference we discussed what I needed to changed in my bibliography. Also, my paper was lacking in the length requirement so she helped me come up with other ideas that would be good to add. I think that the conference helped me get a better understanding of what was expected for the final draft of the topic proposal.

On Tuesday we went to the writing center as a class. The writing center is a free service that is there for students that need extra help in their papers. The tutors that are there are mostly college students that are majoring in english. I think that this is a good resource and I'm going to go there when I need help on a paper. Next week I have an appointment to get help with the research proposal paper.

Journal 2

I think I'm going to do autism for my research paper. Since autism is such a wide topic, I'm going to mainly focus on autism in school children. Focus points may be how teachers adapt the classroom, if special assignments are needed, or what type of classroom is best for the child. I chose this topic because it has always fascinated me and I am a special education major. Hopefully this will let me understand autism a little more than I already do.

Journal 1

Overall, I liked the english syllabus. I was glad that it has the point values for all the assignments. This makes it easier to keep track of what my grade is throughout the semester. I also liked that there was an explanation of all the different papers we will write over the semester. It's helpful because it gave me an idea what to expect and what to prepare for.
